Two detained in attempt to smuggle 12 kg of gold from Turkey to Ukraine

The Yambol District Prosecutor's Office detained two Ukrainian women for up to 72 hours with 12 kg of smuggled gold items. The perpetrators were travelling in a van from Turkey to Ukraine via Bulgaria when they were intercepted at Lesovo BCP.

At the border, they stated that they had nothing to declare. During the subsequent check and personal examination, the customs officers found a total of 30 packages of jewellery wrapped with tape under the clothes of the two women. The value of the jewellery was €544 653.
