The Sofia City Prosecutor's Office mandated the State Agency for National Security (SANS) to verify whether citizens and legal entities from the Russian Federation, included in sanctions lists of the European Union, the United States and the United Kingdom, have acquired a number of real estate properties in Bulgaria, as stated in media publications.

Informal paramilitary structures on Bulgarian territory, which are reportedly trying to push interests that could harm national security, will also be subject to verification. At the end of 2022, Sofia City Prosecutor's Office and SANS launched investigation over a report that the Military Union - Bulgarian People's Militia "Shipka" was committing crimes against the Republic of Bulgaria.
