If you are riding in a taxi in Sofia and it turns out that your driver sings better than a TV popstar, you are most likely in Georgi Kostadinov's cab. In fact, he is a star! His striking appearance in the reality show "The Voice of Bulgaria" made him very popular in this country.
Music is his vocation. Georgi always knew this, even when he was a little boy. At the age of 7 he started to study piano, and in the eighth grade he already knew he wanted to sing. He began his musical education in Dobrich and continued at the National Music Academy "Pancho Vladigerov" in Sofia, where he graduated with a degree in Pop and Jazz Singing in the class of Associate Professor Dr. Alice Bovaryan. As a student she won the Grand Prix of the European Youth Pop-Rock Competition "Sarandev". He started working as a singer in piano bars and on cruise ships, where he gained a lot of experience. However, like many musicians, the pandemic forced him to look for an alternative occupation and then he started... driving a taxi. That's exactly what George talks about with his powerful voice in the collaboration song with DJ Dian Solo of Deep Zone Project - "Funky Taxi Driver":
I wake up every morning
and I''m feeling sad.
I''m drinking up my coffee
and going for a ride.
You ready for your taxi.
You ready for your song.
You ready for my rhythm.
You ready for my soul.
In just one year Georgi Kostadinov gave us two very different original songs.
While the first "Funky Taxi Driver" is full of energy and rhythm and takes us back to the roots of funk, soul and jazz - the music he grew up with, his second song "Our Sky" is a sincere and emotional elegy. "I wanted to tell a story about love - how strong, big, great and everlasting it is. About the fact that it can turn a person upside down in an instant," says Georgi Kostadinov. The evocative confessional lyrics were written by Georgi himself. He also wrote the music together with Anthony Rikev - WahTony, who made the arrangement.
Besides Georgi Kostadinov's voice, in "Our Sky" we also hear the backing vocals of his life partner - Elena Kokorska, and her sister Kristina Kokorska - Krista.
Everytime I see you,
Everytime you’re here,
Longing, shouting
in my mind – I love you.
We’re here at the end of the world
We’re here, hand in hand,
Again this rain is in our souls.
Again we’re drowning in our lies.
Our words are empty, strangely quiet.
We’re sadly smiling in betrayal.
Your eyes are talking, strangely quiet.
As we’re gazing into the sky.
