Bulgaria's Ministry of Foreign Affairs is to summon the Ambassador of the Republic of Macedonia in Bulgaria, Agneza Rusi Popovska. Ambassador Popovska will be handed a note of protest in connection with the serious criminal act committed against the Secretary of the Bulgarian Cultural Club "Tsar Boris III" in Ohrid.

According to a statement published on the Foreign Ministry's website, Bulgaria's caretaker Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikolay Milkov had a phone conversation with North Macedonia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bujar Osmani. Bujar Osmani assured Minister Milkov that the local authorities would provide the necessary assistance. The Interim Consul of Bulgaria in Bitola and a team from the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Skopje have been sent to Ohrid and are in contact with the injured man.

President Rumen Radev stated that the ambitions for EU membership of the Republic of North Macedonia and the commitments assumed for reforms and for asserting democratic norms in the country are out of step with the reality in which Macedonian Bulgarians are living in North Macedonia. He pointed out that he will once again raise the issue of the observance of the rights of Bulgarians in North Macedonia with the EU leaders, as well as the European institutions and the Council of Europe.
