The Sofia City Prosecutor's Office has brought charges against the former executive director of the Bulgarian Investment Agency, Stamen Yanev, for abuse of office, the state prosecution said.

In February 2022, a signal was received from a member of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) alleging violations of the requirements of the Bulgarian Citizenship Act, Foreigners in the Republic of Bulgaria Act and the Investment Promotion Act.
According to it, the procedures were mainly applied to citizens of Russia and China who wanted to acquire Bulgarian citizenship by naturalisation, or so-called "golden passports" (citizenship for investment), which entitle them to reside on the territory of the country and the EU.
