We, the Bulgarians living in Azerbaijan, are deeply saddened by the death of one Azerbaijani and the injury of two others as a result of an armed attack on the Azerbaijani embassy in Iran on 27 January, Bulgarians in Azerbaijan write in a statement addressed to the UN, the EU and other international organizations.
“We are extremely concerned about the constant violation of the rights of our 40 million compatriots living in South Azerbaijan, and the lack of guarantees of the immunity of any diplomatic mission in Iran or any person located there,” the statement reads. “We alert the international community to the situation in the region and call for action to combat crimes against humanity (…) We are compelled to emphasize that we are witnessing the consistent commission by Iran and Armenia of joint illegal actions within the borders of Azerbaijan (…) We expect the international community to take a fair stand,” the statement reads.
