Bulgarian cabinet is working on renegotiation of National Recovery and Resilience Plan

Bulgaria's commitments under the Recovery and Resilience Plan to reduce harmful emissions in the air cannot be fulfilled. Deputy Prime Minister Atanas Pekanov confirmed that the work on the renegotiation of the plan in the energy part commissioned by the parliament is already underway.

The Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Environment and Water, as well as the social partners are working on the preparation of a justified request for the coal-fired power plants, in line with the decision of the Parliament. Bulgaria's position is that at the moment it cannot fulfill the reduction of emissions - neither for last year nor for the current one, due to the current energy situation.
We remind you that the 48th Bulgarian Parliament obliged the government to change the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. It is expected that by the end of March the cabinet will "take all necessary action" to drop its commitment to cut carbon emissions from power generation by 40% by the end of 2025, taking 2019 baseline levels.
