Representatives of seven countries discussed the difficulties faced by food supply in times of crises at a Balkan summit on agriculture. The event, which takes place today and tomorrow in Sofia, is organised by the Bulgarian Ministry of Agriculture. Delegations from Romania, Greece, Croatia, Montenegro, Kosovo and Slovenia are taking part.

In his address to the forum participants, Agriculture Minister Yavor Gechev stressed that agriculture is a vital sector in the world economy and its strategic importance is constantly growing. Therefore, according to Minister Gechev, it is important to reform the sector by applying new scientific achievements.

Those present also discussed ways to tackle inflation, as well as access to raw materials and transport corridors. All delegates agreed on the need to work at the regional level to promote local production and short supply chains between Balkan countries.
