Sofia airport reports an increase in passenger traffic compared to the previous two years, but has not yet reached pre-pandemic levels in 2019.  According to information from Sofia Airport, a total of 516,865 passengers passed through the airport in the first month of the year.

On domestic lines, the number of travelers in January was 13,636, which is a drop of over 26 percent. The same trend is observed with charter flights, which have decreased by 9% compared to 2019. This can be partly explained by the lack of snow in January, when the main flow of tourists is to the winter resorts of Bulgaria.

477,711 passengers traveled on regular international routes, and 4,464 planes took off and landed in Sofia in January, which Sofia airport reports as a drop of more than 4% compared to the data before the pandemic.

In 2022, Sofia Airport served more than 6 million passengers, which is significantly more than in 2021, but with more than 1 million passengers less than in 2019.
