We honour the memory of the medics who died for the freedom of Bulgaria

Iliyana Iotova pays tribute to the medics who lost their lives on the battlefield during the Russo-Turkish war.

On the eve of the 145th anniversary of the Liberation of Bulgaria, the Bulgarian Red Cross organized the traditional commemorative ceremony at the Doctors' Monument in Sofia, erected in honor of the hero medics who died in the Russo-Turkish War. 

Vice President Iliana Iotova also took part in the commemoration. "Today we pay tribute to the heroes who were on the battlefield not with weapons in hand, but with stethoscopes, scalpels and bandages," Yotova said. She thanked the Bulgarian Red Cross for its active work and dedication. "Today, more than ever, we need you," the Vice President stressed and recalled that the Bulgarian Red Cross was among the first to lend a hand to those fleeing the deadly war in Ukraine, as well as to help after the devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria.
