Bulgaria will call on the European Commission to terminate the contract with Pfizer-Biontech for the supply of Covid-19 vaccines, caretaker Minister of Health Assen Medjidiev said. The country's position is expected to be supported by six or seven other member states at the Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumer Affairs Council on March 14 in Brussels. "The supply of such large quantities of vaccines, which are then destroyed, is extremely irresponsible and does not reflect the image of Bulgaria, the EC, or the EU", said Minister Medjidiev.
"Bulgaria does not need more vaccines", Minister Medjidiev noted. In 2022, Bulgaria destroyed more than 2.3 million vaccine doses. Nearly 2.8 million vaccines are to be scrapped this year, Asen Medjidiev went on to say.
