The Art Gallery "Vladimir Dimitrov-Maistora" in Kyustendil hosts an exhibition on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the rescue of the Bulgarian Jews during the Second World War. The exhibition features works by two generations of local artists of Jewish origin, Moritz Bentsionov (1898 - 1941) and Aron Alkalay (1924 - 2012).
The renowned Bulgarian artist Vladimir Dimitrov-The Master was the first to notice the talent of the young artist Moritz Bentsionov. The quiet, modest and feeble man created some of the best works of Bulgarian art of the 1930s and 1940s. He mostly painted landscapes, inspired by the natural contact with nature in the region of Kyustendil. Critics call him "The romantic landscape painter of the Kyustendil valley".
