The first cruise ship on the Danube for the tourist season docked on March 20 in the Vidin port. Nearly 150 American and Japanese tourists are traveling on board the luxurious "Viking Lif".

They first visited the unique Belogradchik rocks and the Kaleto fortress. Then they returned to see the Baba Vida fortress in Vidin.
During the new tourist season, 294 cruise ships with over 36,000 foreign tourists are expected to dock at Vidin port.

Traditionally, the season starts on March 20, and this year it will last longer - until December 27, when the last cruise ship sailing on the Danube is scheduled. The busiest months are May, June, July, August and September, when 40 to 45 ships dock monthly.

Trips along the Danube river after 2010 have become a tourist hit among foreign tourists, especially from America and Asia, BTA reports. All tourists are over 65 years old, with the majority being married couples. According to cruise ship guides, foreign tourists show a strong interest in religious and historical sites in Bulgaria, as well as in sites from the recent past.
