Part of the relics of St. George the Victorious and a miraculous icon with his face from Mount Athos (The Holy Mountain) will arrive to Pernik region  in the days after the Easter holidays, announced the board of the Monastery to the Saints Kozma and Damyan near the village of Gigintsi, close to Breznik (Pernik region).

The relics that will arrive are the right hand of St. Great Martyr George the Victorious from his temple in the town of Nigrita near Seres (Northern Greece) and a copy of the Faneuil icon of the saint from the German convent of the St. George Zograph monastery on Mount Athos.

On May 1, the relics will be exhibited in the Saints Kozma and Damyan Monastery in the village of Gigintsi. Three days later, on May 4, they will be put on display in the medieval parish church of Saint Petka in Breznik, and on May 6 (St. George's Day) - in the oldest functioning church in Pernik, bearing the saint's name.

St. Great Martyr George the Victorious has been among the most revered saints in Bulgaria ever since the conversion of the Bulgarians to Christianity in the 9th century. There are hundreds of churches and monasteries built by the Bulgarian kings and noblemen, dedicated to the saint, the most famous of them being the Kremikovsky, Glozhensky, Belashtensky, Pomorie, Bukorovsky monasteries and many others. Numerous relics are kept in each of them.
