Authorities investigate alleged secret agreements between food retail stores

The Commission for the Protection of Competition has opened three proceedings to establish possible prohibited agreements carried out by producers and traders throughout the distribution chain in the food sector.

On Tuesday, the antimonopoly state body announced that they were conducting surprise inspections of hypermarkets and branch organizations for the presence of a cartel in food prices.

Copies of documents and electronic correspondence were then seized from the offices for the commission to analyze.

Given the public interest, the Commission for the Protection of Competition will do everything possible to carry out the investigation in the shortest possible time and, in the case of detected violations, will sanction the offenders, the institution reports.
