Toll fees in Bulgaria to be increased by 50%

Toll fees in Bulgaria will be increased by 50%, confirmed Bulgaria's caretaker regional minister Ivan Shishkov. According to estimates, in this way the annual income from them will increase by BGN 600 million (EUR 306 million). It is envisaged that the price of the fees will be determined depending on the kilometers that vehicles travel. Above a certain mileage - for example, 5 thousand km within a month, there will be a reduction to relieve those driving the longest distances.

"We are not saying a specific figure because we are still making calculations," commented the minister.

Last year, revenues from tolls amounted to BGN 271 million (EUR 138 million) with a 35% increase in traffic through Bulgaria.

(*Toll fee - means a state fee payable pursuant to Article 10, Paragraph 1, Item 2 of the Roads Act by users of the paid road network, which entitles a road vehicle to travel certain toll segments of roads, included in the scope of the Paid road network.)
