"During the long history of Bulgaria, the glory, the victories and the successes alternate with deep wounds. One of these wounds has not healed yet - the Bulgarian Thracians", Vice President Iliana Iotova said in her speech in front of the Monument to the Edirne Epopee in Sofia.

On March 26 Bulgaria celebrates the Day of Thrace. This year the observances mark the 110th anniversary of the Siege of Adrianople. The celebrations began with a memorial service at the St. Nicholas of Sofia church. After the memorial service, Vice President Iotova and the President of the Union of Thracian Societies Krasimir Premyanov laid flowers and wreaths at the Monument to Exarch Antim I in St. Nicholas of Sofia park. Commemorations also took place in Burgas, Varna, Haskovo and the historic locality “Petrova Niva”.
