Ambulance drivers from all over the country gathered at a protest in Sofia in front of the Ministry of Health demanding a pay rise and better working conditions. The protesters briefly blocked the intersection at St Nedelya Square in Sofia, which is in front of the ministry building.

"We have emergency calls all the time, the teams are very few, the tension is high. For the night shifts we get 1 lev /50 cents/ per hour," the protesters said. The Podkrepa trade union, the organiser of the protest, is demanding a basic salary of 1400 leva /715 euro/ for ambulance drivers.

Podkrepa is also organising a motor march against the high prices at 5 pm. Blockades of central streets and boulevards in Sofia are expected.
