Hundreds of agriculture machines blocked for 2 hours the traffic to the Danube Bridge border crossing at Ruse and to the crossing to Romania at Kardam. Protesters also closed the ports of Silistra and Vidin. Farmers from Romania joined the blockade in Vidin.
The purpose of the action is to demand the government change rules around importing grain from Ukraine, which activists claim undercuts domestic producers. According to the protesters, as a result of duty-free import of Ukrainian grain, market prices for grain and oilseeds do not cover production costs. There is a lot of unsold production in warehouses and it is a problem where the new harvest will be collected. The demonstrators demand that the EU regulation on duty-free imports from Ukraine should not be extended.
The protest will continue in the coming days until the end of March.
