Sofia has all the conditions for the development of urban beekeeping. The best honey in the capital is acacia or linden, said beekeeper Petar Petrov to BNR - Radio Sofia. Mr Petrov looks after 30 beehives in three locations in the capital.

The University of Forestry, which has set up a training apiary in Sofia's Studentski grad (the student campus area for most universities in the capital - ed.), is interested in his activities. According to Petrov, one of the first urban beekeeping projects in Sofia was launched in 2011 on the roof of a Sofia hotel, the next one was an apiary on top of the National Palace of Culture.
