After a series of meetings, the first and the second political force in parliament reached agreement on Rossen Zhelyazkov from GERB to be elected President of the National Assembly. The representatives of GERB/SDS and We Continue the Change/Democratic Bulgaria also agreed on having a National Assembly President elected by rotation for as long as parliament continues its work.

The political forces have drafted a common list of draft bills to be proposed to the other parliamentary groups in search of a constitutional majority for a judiciary reform. One of the first bills to be considered concerns domestic violence. The programme of the negotiating sides also includes the reforms connected with the Recovery and Resilience Plan, Bulgaria’s accession to the Eurozone and the Schengen area, amendments to the Criminal Procedure Code and the Anti-Corruption Commission.

“As to negotiations on forming a government, they ought to be conducted at the level of leaders,” Nikolay Denkov from We Continue the Change/Democratic Bulgaria emphasized. However, his political formation maintains its position that it will not support a government on the first mandate.
