“There is Such a People” party has failed to collect enough signatures to initiate a referendum on a presidential republic. This transpired from a Facebook post by the party’s leader Slavi Trifonov.

"We have collected 145,193 signatures from Bulgarian citizens in the country and abroad for a referendum for convening a Grand National Assembly to decide whether the parliamentary form of government should be replaced with a presidential one. These signatures are insufficient under the current law and such a referendum will not be initiated," Trifonov wrote on Facebook.  400,000 signatures are required in order to send the referendum petition to Parliament. According to the ITN leader, changes are needed in the law on referendums to reduce the number of signatures required. “In our view, direct democracy is the true expression and form of democracy", Slavi Trifonov further wrote.
