Veselin Topalov scores a victory in the third round of the “Craddle of Modern Chess” tournament in Salamanca

Veselin Topalov won a victory in the third round and drew in the fourth round of the round-robin tournament “Craddle of Modern Chess” in the Spanish city of Salamanca.

Topalov played versus Kirill Alekseenko (Russia) and Jaime Santos Latasa (Spain). The former world champion scored a victory against the Russian chess player with the black pieces and drew versus the Spanish player with the white pieces. Topalov ranks first in the standings, followed by Latasa and Alekseenko.

The chess tournament in Salamanca ends on Saturday with the last two rounds, when Bulgaria’s best chess player will play against Ukrainian veteran Vasyl Ivanchuk and Sarasadat Khademalsharieh (Iran).
