A pair of golden-headed lion tamarins, cottontop tamarins, marmosets and a meerkat family are among the newcomers to the zoo in Burgas. The golden-headed lion tamarins are among the rarest monkeys in the world, and are the only ones in Bulgaria. They have thick, golden manes resembling a lion’s, and are friendly and playful. The golden-headed lion tamarins are indigenous to South America and are an endangered species globally.
The cottontop tamarin is a small monkey that is to be found only in Columbia. Their habitats were destroyed by lumbering.
The meerkat is the smallest monkey in the world, reaching a height of 188 cm. and a weight of 0.62 - 0.97 kg. They are indigenous to the Northeastern parts of Brazil.
