Today, May 9, Bulgaria’s caretaker Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivan Kondov summoned the Ambassador of North Macedonia to Bulgaria Agneza Popovska for a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Foreign Ministry said. Minister Kondov expressed strong concern and disagreement with the actions of the border authorities of the Republic of North Macedonia at the Novo Selo border checkpoint.

On May 6, 2023, Bulgarian MEP Andrey Kovatchev, Bulgarian Memory Foundation head Milen Vrabevski and  three other Bulgarian citizens were denied entry into North Macedonia en route to the Bulgarian military cemetery in Novo Selo for the marking of the Day of the Bulgarian Armed Forces. Minister Kondov said that he considered such a measure as unjustified and incompatible with the European principles and norms.
