“We warmly welcome the nomination of @GabrielMariya as Prime Minister designate of Bulgaria. She has the experience and international authority to overcome the political stalemate in Sofia,” Manfred Weber, leader of the European People’s Party (EPP) Group in the European Parliament writes on Twitter.

“Knowing Mariya Gabriel personally, I believe this is a good, well thought-out choice,” caretaker Prime Minister Galab Donev told reporters in parliament.

“We shall not support a GERB mandate, and, obviously, we shall not nominate any names as part of such a government,” said Daniel Lorer from the coalition We Continue the Change/Democratic Bulgaria. In his words, Mariya Gabriel has been doing her job as European commissioner diligently, and it is to some extent a surprise that she accepted the nomination.

“Mariya Gabriel has a good business card in Europe, but that doesn’t mean a thing. Any support for GERB will take intensive negotiations on programmes and priorities,” said Stanislav Balabanov from There Is Such a People party. “We hope a cabinet of shared responsibilities will be formed,” Balabanov added.

“Mariya Gabriel is not someone capable of assuming the responsibility for governing the country,” stated Vazrazhdane leader Kostadin Kostadinov and went on to say that Vazrazhdane will only support a government they themselves have nominated.
