“Shame, I never imagined that in a country that is a member of the EU, we have to go back in time tens of years and start fighting a battle for independence all over again,” Galina Zaharova, chair of the Supreme Court of Cassation told reporters before the start of the plenary session of the Supreme Judicial Council, SJC.

“The proposal by six colleagues for the early removal from office of the prosecutor general places us at the start of a procedure, and this legal possibility is formulated extremely laconically,” Galina Zaharova stated further. “All members of the Supreme Judicial Council ought to keep a maximum distance so that we can make a decision that will ascertain the truth to a maximum degree and will endeavour to avert the current crisis which could deepen,” she added.

Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev joined the plenum online, stating he was taking leave of absence on personal grounds.
