The plenum of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) adjourned their meeting late last night, which debated the procedure for the early removal from office of prosecutor general Ivan Geshev for more than 13 hours.
Minister of Justice Atanas Slavov told reporters that the postponement was because of the requirement for compliance with the right to defence and for a reasonable period in which the prosecutor general can get acquainted with the evidence connected with the procedure. The procedure was initiated after four members of the prosecutor’s college of the Supreme Judicial Council lodged a proposal for the removal of the prosecutor general for defamation of the judiciary over Ivan Geshev’s words that the “political garbage” has to be thrown out. The next SJC meeting on the procedure for the removal of Ivan Geshev from office is scheduled for 9 AM on Monday, 12 June.
