Military personnel help to overcome flood damage in Berkovitsa

Bulgaria's Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov will require all resigned regional governors to take urgent preventive measures against possible floods, the government press office announced. On this occasion, he spoke with the Chief of Defence and the Director of the National Fire Service.

At the moment, nearly a hundred military personnel are participating in the activities to overcome the consequences of the flood in the municipality of Berkovitsa, Western Bulgaria, where a state of emergency has been declared due to the heavy rains. Work is also underway to reduce the levels of the Klisuritsa and Ogosta reservoirs.
Last night, the streets in Berkovitsa turned into rivers that carried cars, dozens of houses were flooded, but, fortunately, no one was injured.

The situation also remains dire in the municipality of Georgi Damyanovo.

The Ministry of the Interior will commission an investigation into the causes of the flood.
