At a hearing in parliament, Justice Minister Atanas Slavov called on the political forces to start consultations on constitutional reform as early as next week. He also said he would not exercise his power to nominate a new prosecutor general with this composition of the Supreme Judicial Council.

"I stated quite clearly - first, a Constitutional reform of the functions of the prosecutor's office, of the functions of the prosecutor general, and then a legitimate election," Atanas Slavov explained his position.

The minister supports the idea of the prosecutor's office remaining in the judiciary as a prevention of excessive politicization.

"There must be mechanisms for responsibility and accountability," he added.
