Rumen Radev: We will continue to guard the external border of the EU

"We fully understand that the admission of Bulgaria to Schengen is a sensitive topic for Austrian politicians and society. Whatever you decide, we will continue to guard the external border in the best way we can," said President Rumen Radev at the Wachau Forum in Austria

However, Radev stressed that if Bulgaria and Romania are kept outside Schengen, this will not make the space stronger. "The countries on the front line must be inside," added the Bulgarian head of state.

According to his words, Bulgaria, guided by its sense of solidarity, has always guarded the most difficult external land border of the EU - that between Bulgaria and Turkey.
