The Sofia City Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into media reports that a member of the 49th National Assembly may have committed a crime, namely advocating or inciting discrimination, violence or hatred.

The prosecution was brought against Kostadin Kostadinov, the leader of  Vazrazhdane party, because of a post he made on social networks.

Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov denounced Kostadinov's conduct and called on Vazrazhdane Party to go back to actions that comply with the country's laws. "Over the last month we have seen a continuous intensification of this aggression, including through public posts by the leader of the party (Vazrazhdane) inciting the use of violence... Unfortunately, the history of humanity knows that big problems begin with small actions of this type," Denkov said.

In response, the leader of Vazrazhdane accused the government of carrying out "instructions of the American embassy." "In practice, he (Prime Minister Denkov) legitimises our political organisation as the only one that opposes attempts to drag Bulgaria into the war in Ukraine, to turn Bulgaria into a territory from which military action against Russia is being deployed," Kostadinov said
