Bulgaria’s Minister of Justice Atanas Slavov said that on June 30 he would file an appeal with the Supreme Administrative Court against the election of Borislav Sarafov as acting Prosecutor General. According to Minister Slavov, the procedure for electing a new prosecutor general should be suspended.

According to a provision in the Administrative Procedure Code, when a case is brought before the Constitutional Court challenging the constitutionality of a law that applies in a proceeding such as the election of a new Prosecutor General, then the relevant authority suspends the proceedings until the Constitutional Court has given its ruling, Atanas Slavov explained. At the moment, the election of a new Prosecutor General does not meet public expectations and society's requirements for this figure, Minister Slavov added.
