The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) has halted the procedure for the election of a new prosecutor general until the closure of the case at the Constitutional Court.
The procedure will be resumed after the Constitutional Court gives judgement on the request filed by former Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev for declaring several provisions of the Criminal Procedure Code unconstitutional, including the reduced majority in the SJC needed for the election and dismissal of the prosecutor general.
Acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov and Andrey Yankulov, legal advisor at the Anticorruption Fund are to be heard out at the sitting regarding the participation of magistrates in the so-called Eight Dwarves affair (involving the takeover of businesses using law enforcement as an instrument). The attempt to exert pressure on the members of the SJC who made the proposal for the early dismissal of Ivan Geshev, is also to be put to discussion.
