Denkov to "Sky News": Treaties matter, but what matters more is success on the battlefield

Sending cluster bombs to Ukraine is a delicate issue from a political point of view, Prime Minister Nikolai Denkov said in an interview with Sky News TV, adding, "We are in a full-scale war here. Treaties are important in war, but it is even more important to have a success on the battlefield."

He pointed out that many nations have signed the Convention on Cluster Munitions, but not the United States and Russia. "The fact that Russia has not signed it implies that it assumes these munitions can be used. As far as I know they have already used them. If the Russians are using them, it is normal to expect that the other side can do the same," the prime minister added, as quoted by BTA.

Iliana Iotova also commented on the provision of cluster munitions to Ukraine. "It is worrying that Premier Nikolay Denkov was perhaps one of the few leaders at the NATO Summit who supported their use. Bulgaria has been part of the treaty that prohibits the use of cluster munition since 2008", said Iliana Iotova.
