A drop-off point for illegal migrants near Sofia has been crashed as part of a nationwide action against migrant trafficking. More than 40 migrants were arrested. Three persons who organised the trafficking have also been detained, BNR has learned.

The crack-down was ordered by Interior Minister Kalin Stoyanov but is being carried out under the direction of the prosecutor's office. It involved teams from the National Police, the General Directorate for Combating Organised Crime and the Border Police. The police checked dozens of locations in different cities all over the country, as well as vehicles driving on the roads. Hawala intermediaries, who facilitate the transfer of funds of irregular migrants between the sender and the receiver, are also subject to checks.
