WizzAir has until 11 August to submit to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) an action plan with preventive measures against delays and cancellations.

Since the beginning of 2023, the CAA has received more than 500 complaints from WizzAir passengers, more than 200 of which have not been addressed by the airline. In July 2023 alone, 38 outbound international flights were cancelled at Bulgarian airports and another 69 were delayed by more than two hours.

The Civil Aviation Administration is taking action to ensure compliance with the EU Air Passenger Rights Regulation. Penalties could reach up to €2,500 and will be imposed under the Civil Aviation Act, the administration said. Since the beginning of 2023, the travel industry has also reported increased alerts and over 690 cancelled and delayed flights by various companies.
