A day after a Russian ship opened warning fire at a merchant vessel in the Black Sea in the immediate vicinity of the Bulgarian Economic Zone, threats to the security of maritime shipping in the region are growing. The Ministry of Defense has told BNT that the situation in the Black Sea continues to be monitored with caution in Bulgaria’s area of responsibility together with NATO allies.

National security expert Velizar Shalamanov defined the actions of the Russian warship as a provocation for security in the immediate vicinity of Bulgaria.
