Salimova makes a step towards the women's chess crown

Nurgyul Salimova has qualified for the semifinals of the Women's Chess World Cup in Baku. This has been the biggest success in the career of the young grandmaster.

The 20-year-old Bulgarian eliminated Russian Polina Shuvalova. After exchanging victories with the white pieces, they played tiebreak games in which Salimova won decisively and entered the group of the top 4 of the competition.

This way she has received a chance to participate in the tournament of contenders for the world title. According to the regulations, the top three players get the right to play in the 2024 Candidates Tournament

Salimova's opponent in the semi-finals is Ukrainian Anna Muzychuk.
