Environmentalists call for abolition of grazing subsidies in Bulgaria's national parks

Experts, scientists and environmentalists from the Coalition "For the Nature in Bulgaria" insist on abolishing subsidies for seasonal grazing in Bulgaria's three national parks. Instead, livestock breeders should be helped to take the animals to other regions of the country by raising percentage subsidies under other measures.

Green experts recall that the measure was started with the idea of protecting alpine pastures from being overgrown with juniper. Subsequently, it turned out that it was not effective and it was even necessary to save some rare habitats, additionally the accumulation of many animals led to the pollution of lakes.

Since the measure is entirely aimed at environmental protection, ecologists suggest that it should be dropped.
