The possibility to establish a multi-year national programme to fund disaster prevention projects is being discussed, it transpired after a meeting of Bulgaria’s Premier Nikolay Denkov with regional governors. The regional governors will review the critical locations in their areas where there is an urgent need of funding under the mechanisms of the Intergovernmental Commission for Recovery and Assistance.

Following the tragedy in Tsarevo Municipality, the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works and the Road Infrastructure Agency have launched inspections of all bridges in the country by order of Premier Denkov. The results should be known within 45 days.

“It is already clear that three of the four victims are related to the collapse of the bridge in Tsarevo”, said Nikolay Denkov.

Meanwhile, the  Burgas District Prosecutor's Office initiated pre-trial proceedings due to the presence of sufficient evidence of a crime that led to the death of four people in the floods.
