Bulgaria keen to participate in environmental assessment of waste-processing plant in Romania

Photo: BGNES archive

Days after citizens from both sides of the Danube River protested against the intention to build a plant for burning biological waste in the Romanian city of Giurgiu, Bulgaria's Environmental ministry has demanded to be involved in the environmental impact assessment of the project. The main reason is the danger of air pollution.

The residents of Bulgaria's Ruse have been living in a toxic environment for years, and this project has reawakened protest actions.

An initiative committee has been established in Ruse. A petition against the construction of an incinerator is also being organized, with over 1,600 signatures already collected.
