The Council of the EU has endorsed Iliana Ivanova as Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth. Commission President Ursula von der Leyen approved the move, following a successful approval procedure in the European Parliament. Thus, Ivanova officially takes over from her predecessor Mariya Gabriel, who is currently Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs. Ivanova will hold the position until the end of October 2024, when the mandate of the von der Leyen commission expires.
