Bulgaria's Oscar candidate "Blaga's Lessons" receives 7 Golden Roses at the Film Festival in Varna

The film Blaga's Lessons of director Stefan Komandarev and Yana Titova's Dyad shared the grand prize for a feature film at the 41st edition of the Golden Rose Bulgarian Feature Film Festival. The jury in Varna pointed out that both films are "phenomenal, engaging and exciting and enter into a dialogue with each other". 

The prize for directing went to Yana Titova for "her ability to create dynamic and multi-layered scenes and get everything out of the actors." 

The festival honoured Veselin Hristov for cinematography for his work in Blaga's Lessons. The film also won the award for best screenplay, which is written by Simeon Ventsislavov and Stefan Komandarev.

Ivan Burnev received the prize for a male role for his performance in the Bulgarian-Spanish co-production Vasil. 
Returning to the cinema after a 30-year hiatus, Eli Skorcheva was awarded for the best female role in Blaga's Lessons.

The award for feature film debut went to Tonislav Hristov for his film The Good Driver. The award for short film at the 41st edition of the Golden Rose is for the film "Silent in the Snow" by Stefan Ganov, which is a Bulgarian-German co-production. 

For the first time, there was also a competition for TV series at the Golden Rose. The grand prize in this category went to The Autumn of the Demon directed by Pavel Vesnakov.

The special award of the festival was presented to film director Georgi Dyulgerov "because of his enormous contribution to the Bulgarian cinema culture, the support to young artists and the interpretation of Bulgarian history".
