Premier Denkov: The Territorial Just Transition Plans will be adopted despite protests

The Territorial Just Transition Plans must be approved today and sent to the European Commission on Saturday, Bulgaria’s Premier Nikolay Denkov told journalists during the Spinoff Bulgaria Conference in Sofia. If the Territorial Just Transition Plans are not adopted, Bulgaria may lose EUR 700 million on the plans related to Stara Zagora, Kyustendil and Pernik, and another EUR 1.5 billion on the plans related to other regions in the country, Premier Denkov noted. In his words, much of the dissatisfaction is based on issues that have already been addressed in the plans.

''It is clear that we are talking about closing the coal-fired power plants in 2038, no one is talking about 2026', Nikolay Denkov said. Earlier, the Bulgarian Prime Minister had talks with trade union leaders. The Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria and the Confederation of Labor ''Podkrepa'' have said that their local structures will decide how the protest will continue.
