Supreme Judicial Council disagrees with proposed constitutional changes concerning the judiciary

The opinion of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) is critical when it comes to most of the proposals for changes to the Constitution, Minister of Justice Atanas Slavov told journalists after the meeting of the SJC. He said he would present the project to the Venice Commission on Friday. The draft will also be discussed in parliament. I will defend the basic idea of splitting the SJC into two councils, Slavov pointed out.

The SJC has reservations about the proposed reduction in the powers of the Prosecutor General, as well as the shorter terms of office of the Presidents of the Supreme Courts and the Prosecutor General. The council is also against splitting the SJC into two councils. There are no reasons for this decision and an ordinary National Assembly cannot make these changes, magistrate Boyan Magdalinchev said.
