Bulgaria's Foreign Minister Mariya Gabriel has met with the ambassadors of the EU countries in Sofia. She said she hoped these meetings would become a place for regular dialogue and cooperation. The minister informed the ambassadors that the main priority for Bulgaria remained the entry into the Schengen area by the end of 2023, the adoption of the common European currency before January 1, 2025 and the accession to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.

Gabriel pointed out that the changes in the Bulgarian legislation and the ongoing reform of the judicial system in order to implement the foreign policy priorities were appreciated in the EU and that the Cooperation and Verification Mechanism of Bulgaria was abolished in September.

Gabriel emphasized active membership in the EU and NATO and participation in the "Corridor #8" and "Three Seas" initiatives as important goals of Bulgarian diplomacy. The minister informed the diplomats about the upcoming meeting of the governments of Bulgaria, Romania and Greece at the beginning of next week, in which Moldova is also invited to participate.

On behalf of the EU, Alejandro Polanco Mata, ambassador of Spain, which is the rotating president of the Council of the EU, also made a statement during the meeting. He discussed the topic of the future and enlargement of the EU.
