The Trakia highway in Bulgaria remains blocked for 7 days now by protesting miners and energy workers near the town of Stara Zagora. The Pass of the Republic, the Galabovo-Radnevo road, the Radnevo-Nova Zagora road and the main Ruse-Svilengrad road near the village of Glavan remain closed.

The protesters were firm that they would not lift the blockade until the territorial plans for the transition to non-coal energy, which the cabinet sent to the European Commission last week, were withdrawn.

Politicians managed to manipulate and divide the protest of workers from the coal regions, the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions (CITUB) states in its position. "It is an outright lie that the agreement with the rulers does not reflect the demands of the protests provoked by long-delayed decisions on the green transition," say officials from CITUB.
The chairman of the parliamentary group of "There is such a people" (ITN), Toshko Yordanov, cut off from the rostrum in the plenary hall the decision adopted by the majority of MPs in support of the energy agreement. He described the decision as "nonsensical" and expressed support for the continuging protests and blockades.
