In recent months, wheat for bread has been exported from Bulgaria to the Far East and North Africa, announced Preslav Borisov from the management of the Bulgarian Farmers' Union. There are buyers in Thailand, Egypt, Jordan, and other countries.

"But the whole sector is in a very difficult, even dangerous situation. The drought has had a very negative impact on yields, especially for corn and sunflower, combined with perhaps the highest production costs and, to top it off, low prices," commented Borisov.

On international markets, bread wheat is quoted at a record low of 213 euros per tonne. It is difficult to find buyers due to the decline in consumption on an international scale and this is pushing prices down, added the chairman of the union, Georgi Stoyanov. The producers have met their expectations, adds Borisov, quoted by Sega newspaper.
