Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mariya Gabriel has met with the Mayor of Los Angeles Karen Bass – the first female mayor  in the city’s 242-year long history.

As Mayor Bass handed Mariya Gabriel the honorary certificate of Los Angeles, the Bulgarian deputy prime minister stated that she accepts it “with a sense of gratitude and responsibility for your good relations with the Bulgarian community in Los Angeles and the West Coast as a whole.”

The two discussed bilateral spheres of cooperation, among them the marking of the 120^th anniversary since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and the US, as well as the possibility of erecting a monument to the Bulgarian alphabet in Los Angeles. Mariya Gabriel made a symbolic gift to Mayor Bass – a statuette, a small-scale model of the future monument.
